Sunny’s Cantina began as the story of three guys in love with Mexican-American flavor and hospitality.

What happens when you’re already running one successful restaurant — Felix’s Pizza Pub — but you can’t get the idea of the Mexican cantina of your dreams out of your head? You make that dream a reality in a St. Louis neighborhood you believe in.

Co-owners Steve VanderKolb and Tom Galbraith, along with Chef Andy Roesch, had a vision for Sunny’s Cantina from the jump. They tasted and curated a selection of tequilas and mixables to create a uniquely appealing bar menu. They looked at every classic Mexican-American dish, innovating in some areas and leaving beloved classics alone in others. They thought about the kind of restaurant they'd like to visit with their families and kids, or a place to escape to for an easygoing weekday lunch. They even named Sunny’s Cantina after Steve’s daughter, continuing a tradition among the owners that goes back to the launch of Felix’s.
